Who is Violet Monos?

What's in a name?

Want to know a secret? My name isn't actually Violet Monos! It's a pseudonym (soo-duh-nim), also known as a pen name. When I started writing the first Autumn Arthur book, I was rather anxious about it being rubbish and people I knew laughing at me, so I made up a name to publish under.

But, why Violet Monos?

Well, at the time of writing I had purple hair, so Violet was a given! One of my 'special interests' is Ancient Greek mythology so I wanted a Greek-related second name. After some searching, I found the word monos, meaning only/alone- I felt this perfectly described how I felt as a child before I fully understood myself, and how I hope other neurodivergent children (and neurotypical ones for that matter!) NEVER feel!

What's my real name? Well, that's a secret for another time.

Violet's Story

Hello and welcome! I'm thrilled to have you here. My name is Violet Monos, and I'm a children's author passionate about creating stories that resonate with young readers and their families.

Growing up in the south of England, I often felt like I didn't quite fit in. I watched those around me do things I couldn't, and say things I didn't understand, which sometimes left me feeling out of place. Books became my refuge—a world where I could belong and explore without limits.

After university, I dedicated myself to education, working in schools and spending a decade as a primary school teacher. Today, I'm a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), where I continue to support and advocate for children with diverse needs.

In 2024, I received a diagnosis of Autism, which was both surprising and enlightening. It helped me make sense of my experiences and embrace my unique perspective. Shortly after, in early 2025, I was also diagnosed with ADHD. These revelations were transformative, allowing me to understand that I wasn't lazy or stupid—the world simply wasn't designed for my type of brain.

Now, I'm on a mission to support neurodivergent children, offering them the representation I wish I'd had growing up. Through my stories, I aim to celebrate the uniqueness of every child, helping them see just how fabulous they truly are. Characters like our wonderful Autumn Arthur are here to show that being different is something to be proud of.

On a personal note, I'm happily married and share my home with a wonderful rescue dog and two very mischievous house rabbits. They bring joy and a bit of chaos to my life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I hope my stories inspire and empower both children and adults alike.
